The Jamaica and Panorama communities are mourning the tragic loss of a young man.
Adam Michael Meinecke, 27, of Nashville, TN, drowned while swimming in Missouri over the weekend. He is the son of Sheri and Robert Meinecke, long-time Jamaica residents who moved late last year to Lake Panorama.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol report states Meinecke was swimming in the Meramec River, three miles upstream from the confluence of the Huzzah River in Crawford County near Cuba, MO, which is located southwest of St Louis. He submerged and failed to surface. His party called 911 for assistance at 3:15 pm on Saturday, June 16.
A search of the area was conducted and continued the following day. Meinecke’s body was recovered on Sunday afternoon by the Missouri State Patrol dive team within the area he was last seen.
Funeral services are under the direction of Hastings Funeral Home in Perry. Visitation will be Saturday, June 23, after 1 pm.in Perry with the family present from 4 to 8 pm. A memorial service is planned at 2 pm on Sunday, June 24, in the Panorama High School auditorium in Panora. Burial will be in Violet Hill Cemetery in Perry on Monday.
In addition to his parents, Adam is survived by a sister, Sarah Burkhardt and husband Taylor of Adel; brother Conner of Panora; grandmother Roberta Meinecke of Panora, formerly of Jamaica; other relatives and friends. He graduated from Panorama High School in 2009.
